There are about 50 different groups of plastics, with hundreds of different varieties. Some types of plastic are easily recycled and have market demand, other types are more difficult to recycle and have limited demand. To make sorting and thus recycling easier, the American Society of Plastics Industry developed a standard marking code to help consumers identify and sort the main types of plastic. These types and their most common uses are listed in the link below.
Starting a plastic recycling program is relatively easy but will require training and implementation. Getting familiar with the different types of plastic material in the market today does take a little time, but once mastered, will go a long way to establishing a recycling program that you will be proud of.
